A-Choo! The movie/TV/post

No training last week because I caught hubby's Armageddon-like cold. I haven't been THAT sick in quite some time. I mean, between the 2 of us we went through 8 boxes of Kleenex. It was also that awful sickness that seems to affect the brain, where counting and words are hard. Ugh. The one amusing part was when I would tell a joke to hubby who was feeling better, but still had a cough, his laugh sounded a lot like Muttley's .

So, instead of training and going to work, I was wiped out on the couch zoning out on TV. I watched a little Oprah, lots or Real Housewives, and some random movies. So, for the sake of having nothing triathlon related to post about--except for the fact that I went to the mall today and was exhausted by walking round trip from nordtrom's to macy's, I figured what better time than now to do some TV and movie reviews.

TV:

The Real Housewives of blah blah blah: Am I still a feminist if I dig this show? Why do I love it so much? Plus, it is kinda bad if I actually have preferences (i.e. the ladies of Miami just do not have the depth of NYC). And how awesome is that both NYC and Orange County are on right now?

Say Yes to the Dress: I got hooked on this show after going wedding gown shopping with one of my dear friends. Since I ordered my wedding dress online and got married barefoot on a public beach in Maui, the whole wedding dress shopping thing was new to me. Though I was slightly traumatized after the shopping trip (it lasted longer than my race time at Big Kahuna in 2008), I strangely became fascinated by the wedding dress experience. Say Yes to the Dress is educational (now I know what pick-ups are!) and amazing that people will spend like, $10k for a dress. Again, I ask myself, "Am I still a feminist if I dig this show?"

The Office: Will Ferrel's first episode was pretty funny. Is it bad that I am not super sad that Steve Carrel is leaving The Office? His character was kind of over three seasons again. Yeah, I can be kind of harsh. I just feel like there are so many more interesting characters (see: Kelly, Creed, Erin) on the show and Michael Scott kind of bogarts the screen time.

Shedding for the Wedding: (sidenote: what is up with the wedding theme here?) I haven't religiously watched biggest loser, but for some reason the show piqued my interest (perhaps because it followed ANTM). I can't even explain why I like this show. It was just, enjoyable. and there is something super cool about people who never thought they could be strong and active getting hooked on it and finding confidence in themselves.

MOVIES

The Romantics: I foolishly paid money for this junk on pay per view. I should have known better seeing as it had Katie Holmes in it. This film was about a group of college friends who reunite for a wedding. It was only and hour and 37 minutes long (short compared to today's epic films), but it felt lazy and tedious. The character development consisted of rehearsal dinner speeches and conversations about things that happened in the past. Um, yeah, I already saw Rachel Getting Married.

The Joneses: this is --I think--supposed to be a satirical movie. It stars Demi Moore and David Duchovny who play Mr. and Mrs. Jones. Their family moves into a Wisteria Lane-like neighborhood, and they are the perfect family. However, it turns out they are really part of a marketing plan to plant seeds in their neighbors' heads about which clothes/cars/frozen appetizers they should buy. I did manage to watch the whole movie, but I wanted it to be darker, edgier, less rom-com.

American Beauty/Ghost World: I loved these movies in my early twenties, but it was interesting seeing them now that I am closer in age to Kevin Spacey/Annette Bening/ Steve Buscemi's characters. These movies seem a little more depressing now. The first dinner scene in American Beauty where the family is so unhappy with each other was almost unwatchable. They are still great movies though.

Sex and the City 2: I was so sick and delirious I watched this stinker TWICE. And now, it's kind of growing on me. It's not Grease good, but maybe Grease 2 good.

That's all for today. Hopefully the next post will be healthier AND tri related.

I am so stealing that lolcats photo and sending it to my boss one of these days.

I have seen exactly ZERO of those movies or shows!
